The language you speak shapes the way you think
The language you speak defines your thoughts. Never asked yourself about this, have you? Have you ever wondered if speaking one language or a different one conditions the way you think? We found this interesting piece about it and became intrigued. Here at the office we have multiple nationalities, cultures and languages.
Lera Boroditsky touches on several points about how languages define the way we think and see the world. This is important to know because it has an impact when two cultures come in the same room or several people from different cultures interact. Obviously it can make us wonder why we think the way that we do. As immigration lawyers, we are in constant contact with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and with different native languages. It is part of our jobs to be flexible, understanding and considerate of these differences. Look at the examples she mentions. Can you relate? Do you have other examples of your own?
