Erwin is a neonatologist, which is a doctor who care for newborn, sick and premature babies. He was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to the States to complete his medical residency. Dr. Bassig was initially hired by a hospital network who needed doctors to relocate to a rural area in the South of Georgia. They were struggling because it is very difficult to find U.S. physicians (especially those in rare specialties) who want to move to these rural and medically underserved areas.

Dr. Bassig came to us after he had been working with an experienced large-firm immigration attorney. When Dr. Bassig came to our office we realized that his previous H-1B had been done incorrectly and had the wrong employer’s name on it. We had to request an amendment nunc pro tunc. Luckily our petition was approved, so Dr. Bassig’s status was corrected without having to leave the U.S.

Our office also worked with Dr. Bassig on a National Interest Waiver for him and his family

This NIW petition was based on his desire to continue to work in this underserved area. He can also continue to help these babies that need extra care. Without him, parents would have to drive for hours to get to a hospital that has the capability to care for these babies.

We are happy that after Erwin completed his 5-year commitment of service in the underserved area. He and his family finally received their Green Cards! It has been a long and complex process and we are proud of having been able to help them. He is a wonderful doctor who cares deeply for his patients and who has, no doubt, saved numerous babies’ lives. Erwin’s ability to legally stay has and will continue to have a great impact on thousands of families in South Georgia.
