Undocumented Immigrant Children in America
Of the 245 children in custody, 175 have parents who have been removed from the United States. Only 18 of these kids are in the process to reunite with their parents in their home countries. Deported parents of 125 children in custody said they would rather have their kids stay in America than returned to their countries of origin.
Seventy of the detained children have parents who are in ICE custody within the United States. They include 27 youngsters whose parents have chosen not to be reunified with their children. The government has deemed the parents of 26 children unfit to be reunified.
